Talking about the “M” Word
For so many people learning about money has been a trial and error process often carried out in the quiet of their own mind. This topic is one that most people do not like to talk about openly. And yet, money touches every area of our life.
Most families never discuss money in the home unless it is to share that things are “tight” or “we can’t because”. Then every decision made is couched in this scarcity around money. The kind of activities we engage in, the groceries we buy, the restaurants we go to, the vacations we take are all determined by how we work with and see money.
In exploring reasons why this is such a taboo topic it always comes back to emotion. Unfortunately somewhere along the way money got a bad rap and was seen as a measuring stick, usually a stick that is too short. The truth is money is just a tool and learning how to work with it is a skill which means it can be learned by anyone.
You do not need more than simple math to learn how to track money and yet even the skill of keeping a check book balanced is not taught in schools let alone most homes. When we are left to our own devices to learn about any topic human nature will always take the easiest route possible and for most that means ignoring it.
It is my dream that you are empowered when it comes to money. That you learn the baseline skills and language of money so you are able to grow as is good and right for the lifestyle that is in your dreams and the callings that are on your heart.
Wallace Wattles has written a book “The Science of Getting Rich”, you can get a free copy of it on the internet. I encourage you to read it and then share with me the insights you gained.
It is little steps, like reading a book that may give you new ways of looking at things or that may affirm that the thoughts and dreams you have are good and right, that are first steps you can build from. Then make sure you share it with at least one other person. If you have children give them the gift too!
I hope you found this helpful and will look forward to hearing your insights!
