Love Or Hate Money?
Love Or Hate Money?
Do you have a love hate relationship with money?
I know I do.
I love it when I have it and
I hate it when I don’t.
What’s interesting to me is that you can increase your income and still not have any money. So what I have learned is that it is not truly about the money but it’s about how you handle the money that you have.
I think one of the greatest lessons I have learned in growing my company is that there are times of investment and times of cashflow and depending on how you are willing to look at it depends on whether or not you feel like you have money or you don’t.
I have definitely had times in my company when I did not have money. From 2008 – 2010 I went from a multiple six figure company to a 5 figure company. I went from a team of 5 to one part time person. How could that happen to me! I know how to manage money.
Here is what I learned.
Even though my income level had changed I still had a business.
Even though I incurred a lot of debt during this time I still had a business.
AND more importantly, I knew how to grow it again.
Was I in a time of investment again? Yes.
Did that mean I did not have money? No.
It meant I was choosing how to allocate the money I did have. I was choosing to invest it in myself and my ability to grow a company again.
There is no other investment that I know of that will give you a rate of return like investing in yourself.
So if you are worried about investing in growing your company, I will challenge you to really look at what you are worried about. And here’s a secret – it’s not the money!
It’s trusting in yourself. Trusting you can and will do what it takes to generate the ROI on that investment no matter what. No matter of the economy, no matter of your team, no matter of your clients.
I know all the questions and fears and concerns. Believe me I have experienced them all. What I learned is that if you take a step, if you continue to show up and invest in yourself and your dreams, you cannot fail. Give yourself the credit you deserve and go for it!
You are greater than you think.
Eventually your money will flow out again and you will have more than you can ever spend and then you have a new challenge :).
So whether you hate money or love it, know that you will deal with it from the first time someone gives you a quarter as a child until the day you die. My challenge to you is to view the money that you do have as a gift. Know that you have enough or can find enough to do the things that are most important to you. Invest it in the things that will take you where you want to go. Suffering is truly optional.
