Letting go of money shame
I’m embarrassed…
This is a statement I hear often. It doesn’t matter whether you are a multi 7 figure business owner or a 6 figure business owner. It doesn’t matter if you have savings or a lot of debt. Each of us has thoughts about our money situation that we just don’t want anyone to know. Let’s be honest we are more apt to talk about our sex life than we are about our financial picture!
Here is the truth.
In the 35+ years I have been doing this work I have learned that Money is one of our greatest teachers in life AND Money is one of the least taught subjects. Unless you had the privilege of growing up in a home where money was talked about in a healthy way the likelihood of you understanding how to manage this tool called money is pretty small.
Now, this has no reflection on your ability to make money.
For some making money is extremely easy and yet somehow it just keeps flying through your hands. For others, it’s a painful, slow and sporadic process and regardless of how much comes in it is never enough.
How do you let go of the shame?
Knowledge.
It doesn’t matter where you are starting from or what your current situation is managing money takes 3 basic steps:
- Baseline – where you are today
- Legacy – where you want to get to and by when
- Dynamic Planning – how you close your gap between your baseline and legacy. It’s different for each of us and there are no right or wrong answers or processes. There are some definite steps to take, in order, so you aren’t spinning, taking forever or putting yourself in an unnecessarily risky position. There are some rules of the game to follow. And the good news is you can learn them and implement them in a way that works for you.
As we work with our clients, our goal is to make money not only fun but also empowering.
Money is a tool that works for you rather than you working for it. I can almost guarantee you that what you are embarrassed about is not as bad as you think. Not sure where to start? We are here to help! Email us at wealth@thecfoagency.com and let’s connect.
